We have handpicked Redmi Note 9s as the best budget phone Xiaomi. priced at RM799 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM variant or RM899 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM variant, and here’s our reason why:
Performance
Redmi Note 9s is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC. It features an octa-core processor which offers 2 performance core and 6 small cores. Paired with a Adreno 618 GPU, it has a computing power equivalent to the Snapdragon 835 SoC, and it offers a better power efficiency due to the newer technology.
Big battery size and display
Redmi Note 9s comes with a 5020mAh battery that could last at least for a day of heavy use after a full charge. Whilst it only comes with a 18W fast charging, which might take the phone about 2 hours of charging time to fully charge the phone from 0%, but the huge capacity would decrease the frequency of the user from needing to charge the phone.
The big LCD display of 6.67 inches at 2400 x 1080 resolution provides good gaming and movie experience. Furthermore, its the first in Redmi to get punch-hole front cmera instead of tear drop camera.

Best Xiaomi smartphone under RM1500
Mi Note 10 lite
Mi note 10 lite is a best mid-range Xiaomi smartphone which ticks all the boxes of a great value smart phone. And it doesn’t break a bank to buy one.
✔ AMOLED display
✔ Monstrous 5260mAh battery size
✔ Snapdragon 730G
✔ Sony IMX 686 camera sensor
For us, a mid-range phone would be something between RM1000 to RM1500, and Xiaomi previously usually offers quite a lot of phone to choose between this price range. However, in 2020, there actually isn’t much choice to left, especially if we want to stick with the latest smartphone model.
While there are only little options, we struggle between Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite and Redmi Note 9 Pro. Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite and Redmi Note 9 Pro has a lot of similarity in terms of spec. However, in the end, we still think that the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite is the best mid-range Xiaomi phone in year 2020. priced at RM1499. It comes with only one variant which is 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM. Our justification is as follow:
Performance
Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite is equipped with a Snapdragon 730G SoC. It features an octa-core processor that is equipped with two performance core and six power efficient core. Paired with Adreno 618 GPU, Snapdragon 730G SoC has a slightly better performance than Snapdragon 835 SoC, and a better power efficiency thanks to the 8nm architecture.
Camera Quality
Mi note 10 lite also uses Sony IMX 686 sensor while Redmi Note 9 pro uses the Samsung GW1 sensor. IMX 686 is far superior than Note 9’s camera sensor. With a price of over RM1000, we think the camera quality of this price range should be great and not just average.
Battery
This phone offers a gigantic battery that has a charge capacity of 5260mAh. We believe that with a battery size like this, any heavy users would still find their phone at at least 20% even after a day of heavy use. It also features a 30W fast charging solution that should get your phone fully charged in no time!
Points that win over Redmi Note 9 Pro:
- AMOLED Display — AMOLED display is something users usually overlooked. AMOLED display offers some advantages over LCD display such as better HDR depth, and it is easier on the eye at night if dark mode is turned on. This is because AMOLED lights up the LED panel pixel-by-pixel individually, unlike LCD which have to light up the whole panel.
- Bigger battery — 5260mAh is bigger and offers a better endurance for the user.
- Less intrusive tear-drop display — We find that the tear-drop display on Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite is less intrusive than the punch-hole display on the Redmi Note 9 Pro
Full Spec List:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G SoC
- 6.47 inch AMOLED Display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixel, with HDR10 support
- 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM
- 5260mAh battery
- under-display optical fingerprint sensor
- 3.5mm headphone jack
- Quad-camera module with 64MP main camera + 8MP ultrawide camera + 2MP macro camera + 5MP depth camera
- 16MP front camera
- WiFi 802.11ac support
- Infrared Blaster
- USB Type-C port
- 30W Fast-charging
Mi note 10 lite is the best mid-range smartphone under RM1500 that satisfies the needs for most average smartphone users.

Who would have thought budget smartphone brand like Xiaomi would ever price their phone for more than RM3000? We really don’t see that coming.
Currently, Xiaomi offers three flagship phones, Xiaomi Mi 10, Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro and Pocophone F2 Pro. These three phones are the best smartphone Xiaomi has ever made. They are also the most expensive phones Xiaomi has ever sold, especially for Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, breaking the RM3000 threshold.
Do they live up to the expectation? Which Xiaomi flagship phone is the best phone to buy? Let’s dive deeper:
Performance
All of the three phones are equipped with the latest and most powerful SoC Qualcomm has ever made (as of 2020) — Snapdragon 865. It features 5G capability, USB Power Delivery 3.0 support, 7nm architecture, Adreno 650 GPU and an octa-core CPU with one high-performance core, three performance core and four power-efficiency core.
Phone Display/Screen
All three phones comes with a 6.67 inch AMOLED display that features 1080 x 2400 pixels, with HDR10+ support and an advertised luminosity of 500nits. However, Xiaomi Mi 10 and Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro supports 90Hz high refresh rate screen, whilst Pocophone F2 Pro only comes with a standard 60Hz refresh rate.
A higher refresh rate provides a much more fluid and smoother user experience. However, it also comes at the cost of worse battery life as well as higher pricing. We think 60Hz still serve many users well at the moment and no point paying the premium to get 90Hz screen now. Do keep in mind that many games actually don’t support 90Hz refresh rate yet.
Full Specification Comparison
We have come to the conclusion that the best price-to-performance flagship smartphone for Xiaomi would be Xiaomi Pocophone F2 Pro, as it not only offers better pricing, but it also offers similar performance compared with Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro. To be honest, not many will benefit from the 108MP camera of Mi 10 for daily usage.
Thanks to the motorized pop-up front camera, Xiaomi Pocophone F2 Pro is able to get rid of the punch-hole display and provide the user with a full-screen experience. However, it is a double-edged sword which makes face unlock slower which can be annoying at the time.
Conclusion
So there you have it, the best Xiaomi phones you can buy in Malaysia year 2020:
- Best Budget Xiaomi smartphone — Redmi Note 9s
- Best Mid-tier Xiaomi smartphone — Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite
- Best Flagship Xiaomi smartphone — Xiaomi Pocophone F2 Pro
